Cinema
There are two cinemas in Rhodes, The Palace (22410 70670) and the Metropol Alpha Odeon (22410 28400), both in Rhodes town on Dimokratias Street near the football stadium. Both show the international films, some before they are released elsewhere in Europe, subtitled into Greek (childrens' movies may be dubbed, but there is often an English language screening as well).
Unfortunately Rhodes no longer has an outdoor cinema - this being one of the unforgettable experiences English cinema-goers can undergo elsewhere in Greece. However there are the novelties of an interval (for the Greeks to get their nicotine fix) and being able to get a beer or whisky during the show.
Rhodes has a cinema club, 'Theas!s', which shows mostly art-house or 'cinephile' (literally, 'lover of cinema') films every Friday at 21:30 at the Municipal Theatre. For more information see
http://theasisrhodes.blogspot.com
(in Greek). You can register to receive details of the weeks showings (again in Greek, but you should be able to work out the film title and actors...) by sending an email to
weeklytheasis@gmail.com
.
There is also the ecofilms festival which takes place annually in June. See
http://www.ecofilms.gr/
for more details.
