50 Years of Asterix |  (Last updated: 07/07/2010 )
Asterix is coming to Rhodes... There will be an exhibition celebrating 50 years of the comics featuring the little Gaulish warrior at the French 'Inn' on the Street of the Knights in the Old Town of Rhodes. The exhibition will run from Saturday 10th July until Friday 30 July. Personally I've been a fan since I was a kid, and even now I find the comics, which can be bought at many peripteros, an invaluable aid in learning Greek - although having said that you don't get many opportunities to use phrases such as 'μαγικό ζωμό' ('magic potion'), 'αγριογουρούνι' ('wild boar') and 'αuτοί οι Ρομαιοι ειναι τρελοί' ('these Romans are crazy...').

English School Sports Day |  (Last updated: 26/02/2010 )
The English school sports day will be held on Sunday 25th April at 11:30am in the moat. As in previous years you should bring your own egg and spoon and sack (for the egg and spoon and sack races respectively, for those who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing a typical English school sports day), a picnic and water (the moat can get pretty hot at that time of year). Other events will include running and a tug of war, and games of football and cricket.
Another Jolly Good Do |  (Last updated: 22/02/2010 )

There will be an 80s-themed party in order to raise funds for the English speaking department of the International School on Saturday 20th March at 21.00 at Champers in the main street in Faliraki. Entrance is 5€ per adult and includes a souvlaki supper.

The school provides a valuable service to the English-speaking community in Rhodes, as the teaching requirements for children with one or two English-speaking parents are very different to those on offer in Greek schools. It is a non-profit-making organisation and as such is entirely dependent on fund-raising events of this nature. So even if you don't have children at the school, come along and enjoy the fun - your money will be going to a good cause!
