The British Vice Consulate in Rhodes

The British Vice Consulate in Rhodes is located on the 1st Floor of 29 G. Lambraki Street in the centre of Rhodes Town, opposite Multirama Computer Store. We are open to the public Monday – Friday between the hours of 08.30 – 13.30. Our telephone number is 22410 22005. Outside of these hours, in the event of an emergency we can be contacted via the British Embassy in Athens on Telephone Number 210 7237727. Since the closure of the Vice Consulate in Kos, we are now responsible for the island of Kos as well as the other neighbouring islands in the Dodecanese region.
The staff comprises of Rania Kossiori (Vice Consul) and Nelly Arghyropoulou, who work all year round. Geraldine Cunningham-Tambaki joins the team from April to October each year and this year our team has been increased by a new member of staff. Vicky Barr-Roditi will be with us during the summer months each year.
Over half a million British tourists visit Rhodes & Kos every summer. We work in close cooperation with tour operators and the local authorities to ensure that tourists receive the best possible assistance if something goes wrong during their holiday. With the numbers of British nationals, who choose to take up permanent residence in the Dodecanse Islands, increasing yearly, our role is to offer all British nationals our support and to pass on our local knowledge.
The British Embassy in Athens has produced an informative site for British nationals in Greece. http://ukingreece.fco.gov.uk However, we are always glad when people pop into see us or call us for information. We have produced many useful leaflets including Notes on Living in Rhodes, Information on Health Cover for Pensioners, How to go about obtaining your Registration Certificate (which has replaced the Residence Permit) and many others. We can assist with notarial & marriage paperwork and point you in the right direction with the local authorities. Although it is not obligatory to register with the Vice Consulate, we do urge registration on line via the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Database Locate for use in the event of a crisis. http://ukingreece.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-Greece/registering-with-us.
Last year we held our first meeting with British residents in the south of island, which the Mayor of Lindos kindly attended. We were very interested to hear people’s comments and we plan to hold another such meeting later this year for residents from the northern triangle of the island. We also ran a live emergency exercise in February 2008, which was a test of our ability to react in the event of an emergency, involving British citizens, occurring on the island of Rhodes. Staff will participate in other similar exercises, which will take part annually within the Greek consular network.
Every November we help to organise the Remembrance Day Service, which is held at the Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery at Karakonero near Rhodes Town. In December we host a Mince Pie Coffee Morning for British residents at our premises and we always look forward to seeing lots of old and new faces at these occasions.
